I can't believe anyone really thought anything would happen to him? The repercussions over this non-event will be zero. It was funny and sure hypocritical. But, in the grand scheme of things, it really didn't matter.

Repercussions over Whiskygate?
by eyeslice2 inanyone any idea if there have been any repercussions over whiskygate and if anthony morris was ushered into the backroom after a meeting?
i am pretty sure if this had been a member of the r&f and the video was all over the internet, something would have been said about being careful not to bring jah's organization into disrepute.
i am sure the local elders in the congregation he is assigned to wouldn't have the balls to do it and there would have to be a mole pretty high up to find out if the gb got involved.. we can but speculate i guess..

Do You For The Most Part Trust The News Media?
by minimus inthe media is very powerful.
many news people just want to get a scoop even if their breaking story isn’t checked out for accuracy.
some journalists are precise and double check whatever they are reporting.

I tend to read a variety of news sources from various angles figuring the actual truth lies somewhere in between. I quit taking anything at face value after my JW experience.

Jehovah’s Witness who posted criticisms on Reddit can remain anonymous, judge rules
by Tameria2001 inhttps://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/jehovah-s-witness-who-posted-criticisms-on-13855357.php.
i had this article pop up about the darksilver case.
it says a federal magistrate in san francisco has now ruled that darksilver can remain anonymous but then it says except for identification to lawyers for the religion’s watchtower publication.

There's no way DS isn't going to get disfellowshipped if his real identity is shared with the JW WT lawyers. Hopefully, he used means to cover his tracks so that no one knows his identity. Of course, that is the chance that those who provide leaked information take. There are ways that they can get the information to the local congregation. You can literally be disfellowshipped for anything the elders want. It's their rules, their club, they can do whatever they feel like to kick someone out.

What we did when attending a dry JW wedding reception.
by smiddy3 inmany years ago when the wife and i were still active we attended a friends wedding reception at a top class licensed restaurant in the cbd ,we were close friends with the bride and her family .apparently the grooms parents decided it was going to be a dry reception with no alcohol to be served.. as i said we were close friends with the brides parents an elder & " elderette" and they certainly liked a drink or two or three etc.. i asked the bartender for a drink for my wife & myself and was told it was a dry session & no alcohol was to be served as the grooms father was putting the bill.. so i said to the bartender i am quite happy to pay my own way for the drinks regardless ,so i got served while everybody else had to sit through a dry session.. and these were well off people trying to make a statement .. bloody wowsers..

I've attended lots of dry weddings where I live. I always came prepared with a flask and a backup in the car!

The WT has to be the most reactionary organization in existence. I used to think they would make these decisions in a well thought out and business like manner but the decisions over the last couple of decades beginning with the decision to quit charging for the literature shows very little forethought.
Honestly, in the first world native speaking congregations, growth is almost all from born-ins or at the very least, individuals that have some connection to JWs (family mostly). The only real growth they are experiencing in first world countries is via the foreign language groups. And surely that's going to be decimated given they now don't have real territories any longer.
So, I'm not sure its going to have a huge impact for the time being. The biggest impact I see is a diminishing of the "importance" of the ministry. Shifting from trying to start studies (unsuccessfully in most cases but that's actually not the point) to just distributing literature or preaching is going to have an impact psychologically lowering zeal. It's already lower across the organization from my observations than it was say 20 years ago.
They've hinted for years that at some point they will switch to a message of doom or whatever phrase they were using. That's exactly what they should do for now. At least get the troops fired up for a short period of time until you can come up with some other BS.
I believe the GB totally buys into their own BS and they are counting on Armageddon coming to bail them out. May as well double down on that theory with a message of doom. You could also have a message of doom for a few years and then come up with a whole Jonah story whereby Jehovah decides to call off Armageddon due to the repentance of the world because of the JW preaching. Then, switch to a more mainstream religion. LOL

Jared,
Congratulations on taking the course that you feel best about! I love DOCs quote. Often the WTS wants to paint people that leave as being miserable when usually the opposite is true.
I'm sure you've braced for the inevitable blow back.

Should Hand Held Cellphones Be Banned While Driving?
by minimus inmany states do not even allow you to hold your phone if you are driving.
do you think you should be fined hundreds of dollars for touching your phone while driving?
?.

If you are going to have rules surrounding driving (speed limits, stopping at red lights) then it would make sense to address other actions that can cause harm to others such as being on the cell while driving.
While I'm against rules that don't impact others such as helmets for cyclists and seat beats, I'm all for reducing the number of reckless folks on the road.
Incidentally, I'm not against using safety devices and would use them with or without a law. Just don't think the law should force you to do things for "your own good". If you don't want to wear a seat belt and get killed as a result, that's on you.
